Scything
Wilder had a crash course in scything this month at beautiful Fishponds Park, where we cut the hay meadow.
We saw the advantages of scything in action:
πΎ you get a variation in sward height which is good for biodiversity
πΈ we saw small creatures such as toads in the cut grass which would have been killed by a mower
πͺπΎπͺπ½πͺπΌit's good exercise! Apparently physios love scything because of the spinal rotation involved
β½οΈ low carbon - no fossil fuels
π no noise pollution, which is damaging for people and nature
π it's mindful and relaxing, and connects you to 7000 of years of farming heritage
