Wilder + Jerwood
The space at the back of the Jerwood is a real-life secret garden. Wilder were awarded a small grant from the Isla Foundation during the pandemic to increase the wildlife benefits of the garden.
Wilder started by de-paving a section of the garden and installing a repurposed planter to create a pond and marshy area. We also created a wild wall, using offcuts of branches and a mix of fragrant climbers including common crownvetch and sweet autumn clematis. A range of new plants were added throughout the garden, including marsh marigold, common borage, a variety of sages and woodland friendly plants.
As part of our ongoing relationship with the Jerwood Space and their tenants, Gentlemen Baristas, we planted up the glasshouse with clean air plants, connecting the indoor and outdoor spaces with greenery.

Jerwood Space
“Wilder has been working on the public areas at Jerwood Space for the past two years and the transformation has been beautifully managed to make the most of a small urban garden.
Jerwood Space is a not-for-profit arts organisation and we were very pleased to partner with Wilder on their mission to replant urban spaces in SE1. Helena and Leanne have achieved miracles to encourage more biodiversity and create a welcoming and sustainable environment for all who work and visit here.”
‘We all need space; unless we have it we cannot reach that sense of quiet in which whispers of better things come to us.’
